Demography

The Czech Republic is about two and a half times smaller than the United Kingdom and its population is just over ten million people. The country is surrounded by mountains that form natural borders. The Sudetes include the Krkonoše and Ore Mountains and are located in the North on the border of Poland and Germany. Bordering Slovakia in the East are the White Carpathians and in the South-West lies the vast Bohemian Forest. The highest mountain of the Czech Republic is mount Snezka which is part of the Krkonoše and has a height of 5256 ft.

Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic and a city that everyone should certainly visit. Brno is the second largest city in the country and its many shops, boulevards and restaurants give the place a lively atmosphere. The currency is the Czech koruna and 100 CZK is worth around ₤3.40. There is a one hour time difference between the United Kingdom and the Czech Republic (GMT +1). Roman-Catholicism and Protestantism are the two main religions in the country, however most Czech people do not practise any religion.
